ÆUG was founded in 1996 with the purpose of protecting the Danish citizens’ right to freely choose their spouses and live with them in Denmark irrespective of nationality.

While the organization was created to advocate for the rights of bi-national couples on a political and administrative level, since 2002 there has been a strong focus on providing free legal counseling to bi-national couples due to stricter immigration policies.

Currently ÆUG provides counseling via email, telephone and an online forum. These services are of great use for many bi-national couples, but the organization is also focused on influencing the politics and public debate on immigration policies affecting these couples.
